| Spin Betty Girl began in Seattle in 1994, when Joanne and Emilia began performing acoustic shows around town as Tweed Bikini. As they developed their unique harmonies and added songs to their repertoire, they integrated the rhythm section of Mike (bass) and Darren (drums) to give their sound an edge, and began performing as Spin Betty Girl in early 1995. The heart of the band lies in the quirky, melodic hooks of Joanne and Emilia's songs. One columnist describes their sound as "REM driving around in a Buick with the Indigo Girls" or "The B-52s lurking in a dark alley with The Ramones." |  |
